How did you get singled out like that anyway>

I spoke to Zee ten days before he died. It had been one of his last contacts.

But I put all the information he gave me on a post earlier this month and posted the conversation if anyone wanted to look. Don’t know why they didn’t post them in the first place if they’re that dead set on throwing names out there.

Some sort of childish desire for privacy? Why would one of the last people to see him be suspects anyway?

The pool’s already gotten smaller after Joanne confirmed it was another Retrospec user, not an outside force. Maybe someone got into his office, or had to see him somehow for the magic item to work after.

But pinning it directly on the people who spoke to him and not just question their conversations was pretty stupid, especially if the conversations were “irrelevant to the case”, “personal issues” or “retrospec’s situation”.

I think the last person that went to his office was that Akira Turner, but that proves just as much as the last people to talk to him online.

I think so. Items that can kill at a distance and the way Zee died, you guys saw the videos, right?

Actually, theoretically, my spells wouldn't be ruled out. I use an ARCUS, a device, to channel a lot of my spells. That counts as an item.

In fact, a lot of the deaths happened in ways that's technically possible for an ARCUS user. Hypnosis, death spells...both of those exist in Erebonia.

That said, these murders are way above my skill level, and I've been training readily for a year now. So it's still probably unlikely it's an ARCUS user? I mean, unless somehow there's another Erebonian that's managed to that powerful without anyone noticing...

It’s hard not to notice something like that. Do the ARCUS users from your memories use different weapons or are they all staffs and swords?

Different weapons. Swords, guns, knives, spears...

My staff's actually a prototype. It's not common from what I remember. I guess my other self agreed to test it for the Reinford Company when he started going to school.

Well it hasn't blown up on me so far.

...The spells come from the ARCUS, Eren. The weapons are just weapons.

*Staff, not spear.

That’s what I was asking anyway. Like if all weapons could cast the same spells you can or only mages, or if there’re different types of spells for different people.

Either way, while it isn’t impossible to hide it from the network . . . I don’t know. It sounds hard to figure everything like that out on your own and faster than you.

Oh, you do? Is none of it from within or is it a split for some percentage? I ask because my blades are easier for me to control if I have the rapier in hand, but I don't *need* that at all, it's just what's familiar, which makes focusing easier.

It's...complicated?

Some of my spells I can use without my ARCUS, some I can't. The ARCUS spells I'm more like channeling energy from the ARCUS through me to manifest.

On the other hand, no one else can use my ARCUS. It reacts only to me. Same goes for my staff.

Like I said...complicated.

Does that mean it was made specifically for you?

Maybe?

Or it just needs someone from my other world to use it. Won't know until they come.

Oh yeah, that could be it too...

You and Natalia have a good point. I asked Togusa and Tatsuo to keep me updated and the coroner report confirmed Zee died of a stab wound. But it wasn't something more typical like a knife. He was pierced by an outcrop on the roof of the Wiffle Waffle. The environment itself was used like a weapon.

I asked if there appeared to be signs of a struggle. Maybe he was shoved into the spike but there were none.

What type of "item" can kill a person that way?

A dangerous one.

If they killed Zee, it could get to their head. They could kill any one of us the same way if we got too close. It’s not about “killing people is wrong” because that’s bullshit any way you look at it. The problem here is our safety. We’re getting caged without even realizing it.
