He supposed he should be glad that it didn't just so happen to also be one of the people he'd contacted before in reference to Dante. With a clean slate, on the other hand, he wasn't sure how to approach this. He contacted people all the time professionally, but this was different with the stupid You Can't Leave parts to deal with.]

Hello, my name is Dylan Walker and I am contacting you as one of the live acts that I hear performs at Club Sunshine. Do I have the right person?

[Dylan Walker...luckily, that surname is common enough that he doesn't connect any dots. He hadn't heard about Dylan's family in years anyway, since everything he knew was through his mom.

Instead, he's just excited to have someone contact him about music. MUSIC!! ]

I'm Elliot. What can I do for you?

[ The enthusiasm is infectious even for him. His mood softens considerably. ]

I heard you were quite the talent - a multi-instrumentalist. Do you gig professionally? With anyone else?

Really? [holy crap! Someone recommended him!!!] Aw, that sounds really flattering of whoever said that.

I do gigs when I can get them! Though it's usually just street performances or cafes, I'm really just starting out. But I'm always happy to play with other people!

Do you play?

Sorey the bartender at Club Sunshine was the one who brought you up.

I do play several instruments - piano, violin, drums - but my primary professional work is composition. I'm still in school currently but I'm working on a debut - possibly a play, possibly a concept album, I'm not sure yet.

This place seemed too small to break out a debut from, but if you think there's a larger musical and theatrical community than I've noticed so far, I'd be interested to hear it.

Haha, okay now it makes sense. Sorey's a really sweet guy.

Sounds like we're cut from the same cloth- though I only know the basics on drums, so you're ahead of me there! And I haven't exactly started my debut yet either. I've recorded some original work, but I'm still working up the courage to start a youtube channel much less release an album. [Internet comment pages are SCARY.

But hmmm, that's a good question]

If you're talking classical, I'll admit it is pretty limited in this town. There's no lack of musicians on the app and there's even a few concert halls, but it's nothing like NYC or LA.

If anything, idols seem to be the big thing in Recolle, but I try to stay away from that part of the music world.

Idols... augh. Why that of all things to be popular here?

[Pop music he'd learned not to hate so much, some of it was genuinely good, but the whole idol thing definitely wasn't something he wanted any part of either.]

I hadn't even thought about a Youtube channel - I know it can be done, it just seemed so slow a process, and...

[He frowns, thinking about the common thread between Idols and Youtube.]

I used to think I didn't want to be known for my name, but on my own merits... now I don't know if I want to be known by my face either. Sharing a look when you're supposed to be iconic just seems... like a waste.

[Good thing this is over text, but that feeling is stuck in his craw now.]

Not sure, maybe it's because there's a lot of Japanese people here? It's a little strange.

[Elliot liked pop music alright, in fact there was lots of it he listened to. But the idol industry was way too much about money and image. It was a too cynical look at music, ironically]

Haha, lemme guess, you have a famous relative? [He can relate] You could always wear a helmet like Daft Punk! Then no one would know you by face.

I get what you mean. I'd be happy to be known by sound instead of my image. I was just thinking youtube because it is slow process. I'm only a freshman, so I have some years to go before I'm ready to become a full time musician. So it'd kinda be like putting a toe in the water.

[He takes a risk in telling Elliot this, but he has the app, so he must understand a little bit of it.]

Both of my parents are famous musicians.

So you know, a Daft Punk helmet, or a Phantom of the Opera mask, that sort of thing might honestly be something I go with. It feels really important that I stand out from my family - like it was before and it still is kind of a thing.

Have you had anything like that? With or without music involved? I got these crazy dreams a couple of times now and I don't know what to do about them, except try to be as unique as I can and not mistaken for my twin. Right now all I want is one easy way to tell us apart.

Both? And a twin? Ouch. That sure would raise the expectations, alright.

Mine's not as bad, but I think I get where you're coming from. My mom was a pretty well known pianist. I wanna live up to her legacy, but I don't want to be in her shadow all the time either, you know?

I think that's part of why I choose to learn the violin. So I could be different enough to stand out a little.

[He gets a blast of a memory and is struggling to think following, so there's a delay and he's grateful this is text.]

What's your mom name - or stage name, if it's different?

[Because standing out... yeah, that's definitely important to him. Why he keeps getting these flashes that don't make any sense to him, he's not sure. They don't feel like how Togusa and the others described it would.]

[ Elliot meanwhile doesn't notice the delay. It's pretty normal for there to be delays with texts. ]

She went by "Lady Craig" on stage. Craig means rock, so she thought it was funny.

[There's a good chance Dylan would recognize the name. A pianist from NYC who while wasn't a superstar, still had a good-sized following -- especially after she died in a tragic fire ten years ago. Maybe he might have even heard of her through his mom, since they had run in some of the same circles, but who knows.]
