that isn't a big deal. the god in my memories was taller than the skyscrapers in Tokyo.

Physically, he's alright.

Though...he didn't remember anything about transforming, so we had to explain and ... he's pretty upset. Not that I can blame him.
I really didn't handle things that well.

i don't doubt that he would only use it for good reasons. my usual advice would be to practice, but this isn't like riding a bike or learning some magic spells.

does he at least know why it happens? maybe if there are triggers?

Maybe biting his hand has something to do with it?
He kept doing that before, back when he remembered he had some power but didn't know what it was.
But I don't think he was doing that this time.
He was just practicing with his flying gear.

it may be that he only recently got this power or whatever it is, too. these things come at random, sometimes without the person knowing it.

When he was a Titan, he kept attacking the barrier.
Couldn't get him to stop for more than a couple minutes.
