The videos are incredibly charming, aren't they? I'm quite fond of the cover of "Closer" - the first one, not necessarily the follow up. Which is strange as I was never too fond of the original, but this one is wonderful.

Oh I remember that one! Kenton Chen has a lot of talent! I actually do like the original version, but he puts such a different into it with his cover that it's fascinating.

Something about the original didn't sit right with me, although it did grow on me somewhat. But Kenton Chen's version was immediately enjoyable.

Personal preference? The synth didn't sound as nice, and admittedly I looked it up after I listened to the Postmodern Jukebox version.

I see... so are you not a fan of synth? Or just that synth in particular?

In this instance? I'm not a fan. I'm not sure about other styles.

Yes, that's a mash-up. It's a style where someone will carefully put recordings together to make a new song. Like a collage, but with music.

While I can understand the appeal of doing so, is it not better to pour your time and effort into original pieces...?

Not if your talent is in sound editing. Though it is an original piece.

Besides, is it really that different from what Postmodern Jukebox does? It takes songs we already know and present them in a different way so we hear something new.

Anyway, moving on. Tell me which one you prefer:

A. Original
B. Acoustic

... Well. Yes. The postmodern jukebox version reworks it from the ground up and forms a new song in one cohesive unit. It has a theme and sticks to it, even if it is using the lyrics.

That would be my personal preference for artwork, or creating covers of. I'm sure mixing songs into one works perfectly fine in some instances but this example wasn't one I think worked especially well.

... Both of them are nice? In different ways.

But mostly I was just curious in your tastes.

I'm not sure even I can pin my tastes down. I listen to what I think sounds good, which can be anything depending on the day.
