[And someone else just didn't sleep last night. Oops. That's a bad combo.]
Yeah, that would probably be easiest, I'll need some of my tools to set the stones in securely. Whenever you're free is fine, I'll be here all day working on some other projects. [Burying himself in work basically.] Oh, uh, the path should be clear but let me know if you need the map again or if you want me to come get you.
Oh, no, it's no trouble at all, really. I've been in the forge all night so the walk wouldn't hurt, but. I'll uh, I'll at least send Toothless to walk with you here. We haven't had any shades in the area in the last few days, but it doesn't hurt to be safe.
It seems more important to get everyone their stuff they wanted me to make right now, with- you know. That dream, and all.
[He snorts out a quiet laugh, tone lightening a little.] He likes pike and salmon, if you really wanted to bring him food. You don't have to. He'll enjoy the walk.
Yeah, I'll send him that way. I'll meet you at the property line. [It gives him a little more time to finish sanding and smoothing the piece in preparation to set the stones into it.
Sure enough, when Elliot gets to the gate, a massive black lizard is waiting just on the other side, tail swishing, green eyes alert, like a particularly smart dog staying put until someone initiates interaction with him.]
[He is...not entirely convinced because he's known plenty of workaholics, but he doesn't know Hiccup well enough to keep pressing. So table that for now]
Alright, seeya soon!
[Elliot will finally roll out of bed, getting ready and making himself look decent. Making sure he has his quartz with him, and some salted fish from the kitchen, he'll head out into the world.
Ugh. It's way too early for this. If this wasn't so important, he would've crawled back into bed.
But time to shove that grumbling away. He heads for the city gates, reassuring the guards that yes he is Bonded so he'll be fine. And once he gets past that, well. At least his guide is easy to spot. Not often you see a dragon sitting there like a trained dog. So he approaches him]
[Toothless tilts his head and lets out a little rumble, recognizing his name but not fully understanding the question. He's smart, and capable of understanding some speech and directions, and if this one is coming up to him, he's probably-
Oh. He smells fish. Enjoy that big ole blunt head nosing at him in search of that fish because now he's a dragon on a mission for a snack.]
[Yeah...this dragon really was like a really big dog. Right down to the sniffing for snacks. Elliot give a surprise sound followed by a little laugh, reaching down to absent mindedly pet the dragon's head. ]
H-Hey, hold on!
[He takes a step back and digs into his pocket to bring out the fish. Not wanting to risk a dragon lunging for it and taking his hand with it, he's pretty quick to toss the piece over for Toothless to catch]
[Toothless catches it in the air, retractable teeth coming out at once, and gobbles it down partially without chewing, eyes bright and pleased. He lets out a little rumble of a purr, glancing from him, to the path, then back to him. He's still for maybe a moment before he starts bounding down it, leading the way to the Edge.
The path is pretty clear and well-maintained, though at one point, Toothless does snarl at a questionable-looking tangle of brush and tries to steer Elliot away from it, not willing to get too close himself. At the end of the path, Hiccup is waiting, soot-stained and damp, and still wearing his leather apron.]
[He can't help it, his eyes go wide as those teeth come out. Because boy, those sure are some sharp teeth that are suddenly there!!! Somehow that is freakier than if he had seen them all along. Right...this is definitely still a dangerous dragon. One that is much animal-like than the ones you find in Aefenglom. Elliot sure is glad he wasn't planning to do anything to get on this guy's bad side.
He'll recover from his shock and follow behind his scaled escort. As he walks, it gets easier to relax about the dragon. He'll avoid the bush that Toothless wants him to avoid, his curiosity has him careening his neck to try to get a glimpse at the danger, but nothing more than that. Soon without incident, he arrives to Hiccup - safe and sound]
Eheh hey! [He'll offer a smile to Hiccup as well as a wave] It was nice! Toothless did great getting me here. Thanks for sending him.
[Toothless bounds up ahead to Hiccup and they seem to share some sort of weird greeting ritual - Hiccup taking the sides of his face between his hands and wrestling him around playfully, saying,] Who's a good guide-dragon! You are! [Toothless has gone all gummy again, "smiling" and soaking up the affection, headbutting Hiccup pretty roughly.]
No problem! It's usually okay out here but it doesn't hurt to take precautions, and he's started to pick up on traces of Cwyld pretty well. Anyway, the forge is back here, I should be ready to set your stones into this bracelet.
[OH NO THATS CUTE. Elliot keeps back as they go through their greeting ritual, letting them have their moment. It's honestly endearing, and reminds him of his friends with dogs. Hiccup and Toothless have such a close relationship.]
Haha, really? Wow! I know dragons have great senses of smell...taste? But that's still impressive.
[He steps forward. His hand digging for his ARCUS from his pocket that's been holding the quartz]
Great, I made sure to bring them all. I'm excited to see how this works.
[Hiccup leads the way back to the forge, a "rustic" construction a ways back from the equally "rustic" house, Toothless keeping pace at his side.] He's no tracker class dragon, not like- like a Rumblehorn or a Nadder, but yeah, most dragons have pretty good sense of smell, and we've both learned a lot out here. [He pulls up the door and heads in, picking up something off the workbench to show Elliot. The bracelet, with the settings currently empty, made with a metal clasp to keep it securely on the wrist.]
How does it look? [A quiet laugh.] And I'm probably more excited to see what kind of magic you do with it.
[Elliot follows, also trying to follow along with what Hiccup is saying about dragons but wow] ....I didn't even know dragons had classes...
[Maybe some devoted monster researchers back home would be more aware, but Elliot was not exactly Newt Scamander here.
But oh hey the bracelet. Elliot's eye widen when he sees it.]
Oh...it looks fantastic Hiccup! Better than I imagined, even! [Yep, he's clearly pleased] Hehe, well once we get quartz in, maybe we can try a test run here! My friend and I have been experimenting with the quartz on it's own, so I have an idea how to do it...
Well, they do back home, but- none of it really, you know, carries over here... [Considering dragons here are actual people. It's still wild to think about. Don't feel the need to follow his rambling though. Only Newt Scamander actually gets him here. Is it any wonder they're friends?
He perks up a little there, eager to see some magic being done.] Sure, that sounds fantastic. Let me get these set in real quick. [It doesn't take too long to fit the quartz into the settings and bend the metal with small tools to lock them in. When it's finished, he hands it over with a smile.] Here, give it a try.
Aha, I guess not. But at least it means there's a whole new type of dragon to get to know here? [Gotta put it a positive on it! Elliot isn't one to rain on a guy's passion]
Okay! [He watches and waits while Hiccup does just that. It's impressive to watch, reminding him a little of when Orbment shops do something similar back home. Skills that look easy as someone like Hiccup does it, but he knows it probably took a lot of training.
When it's done, he'll give a nod and put it on his wrist. Lucky day, it looks like a fit! ] Oh, it fits perfect. [That's good.] Now let's see...the first step is to put some magic into the quartz...
[He'll hum, casting an enchantment spell on the big blue one. Faintly, it starts to glow faintly. Oddly, the glow doesn't seem nearly as bright as what you'd expect a magic gem this size. Like a lightbulb that's uncharacteristically dim]
[Hiccup is glad it fits. He could adjust it easily enough, but all the better that he doesn't - means it should be good to go, and ready for whatever might happen. He leans in curiously to watch him lay the enchantment, humming as he takes in the soft glow. It's not an impressive level of light, but it's possible it's not supposed to be - after all, that could get you in a bad spot, if you're trying to avoid being found and your bracelet is glowing like crazy.]
[He's looking it over. After finishing giving the enchantment, he'll put his fingers on the blue quartz and with a hum, draw out the enchantment. A light splash of water comes out, appearing in the air in front of Elliot and dropping to the ground. Fortunately, he tried to avoid getting any of hiccup's stuff wet]
[He lets out a laugh as he watches the water splatter over the floor, drawn out of the crystal.] Oh, it was a water charm. That's amazing! [And a relief. That's one project down, a few more to go that he wants to get out before anything else can happen with the Black City.]
Well, I'm glad it'll work out. It seems like a great system.
voice;
Oh, hey Hiccup!
[A sound that suspiciously sounds like a stifled yawn] Oh that's great! I should be free this morning. Did you want me to come to your forge?
[As tempting as it was to go back to bed, that dream more than anything urged the importance to be ready. Sleep can wait.]
voice;
Yeah, that would probably be easiest, I'll need some of my tools to set the stones in securely. Whenever you're free is fine, I'll be here all day working on some other projects. [Burying himself in work basically.] Oh, uh, the path should be clear but let me know if you need the map again or if you want me to come get you.
voice;
I can be out there in about an hour, I think? I'm sure I can find my way there, no need to go out of your way. You're already doing me a big favor.
voice;
voice;
[That is worrying Hiccup. He doesn't know you well enough to open fret, but there sure is concern in his voice]
Toothless is your dragon friend, right? Well..if he's willing, I wouldn't turn him down. Is there anything he likes to eat that I can bring him?
[Get on the actual dragon's good side seems like a good survival method to Elliot]
voice;
[He snorts out a quiet laugh, tone lightening a little.] He likes pike and salmon, if you really wanted to bring him food. You don't have to. He'll enjoy the walk.
voice;
Oh, so fish! I'll see if I can dig some up. He's doing me a favor so I don't mind. Should I meet him at the gate?
voice;
Yeah, I'll send him that way. I'll meet you at the property line. [It gives him a little more time to finish sanding and smoothing the piece in preparation to set the stones into it.
