[GUESS WHO'S HAD ALL WEEK TO DO SOME THINKING GUYS? This girl. Thus in the middle of the morning, you will all receive the product of her days of thought.]
I've been thinking...
While it's true there are a lot of resources available in Aefenglom, I've noticed it lacks a certain support system. I was wondering what I might be able to do and I realized that maybe what it's missing is something that it doesn't know about yet. Something we can bring to it!
My proposal-- opening the first Aefenglom branch of the Bracer Guild.
It's a good idea. The Special Support Section worked similarly, but since we don't have any legal authority here, the Bracer Guild is more analogous anyway.
[ Politely ignoring the Randy Orlando Comedy Hour up there, thankyouverymuch. ]
[Rean has been back from solitary confinement for a little while, and he's had some time to settle down. He's sporting a new bracelet of the magical variety, a token from the Coven that he'd asked for after he got the scolding of his life. He's been quiet, even moreso than usual, and not just because he's recovering from getting the shit kicked out of him but because he has a lot to say and he doesn't know how to say it.
Once he's steeled himself and everyone has time, he calls for a house meeting. This house meeting also includes invitations to Lloyd and Randy, even if they aren't actually part of Thors. They deserve an apology, too. They all do.
Rean at least has the brains to set out some tea and juice for people to drink at the table they're all gathered around. He wants everything to be comfortable even if this is going to be difficult to talk about.]
Thanks for coming. I wanted to apologize again for everything that happened. And for hurting you. It was completely and utterly preventable. [His hands ball at his sides. He should sit down but he doesn't. He needs to stand for this.] You warned me, a couple of you several times but I just... couldn't get the bond thing to work. I didn't reach out for help when I needed it. I feel like I could apologize for a week straight and it wouldn't be enough.
I should thank you, too, for helping me-- for stopping me before I could kill anyone. Things would be much, much worse if you guys hadn't intervened.
[He takes a deep breath.]
But I didn't call everyone together so I could go on and on about that. I called you here because I want to make sure this never happens again, and I think... I think the best way to do it is to talk about something that happened back home.
It's time for me to talk about what happened in North Ambria.
[He looks a little nervous, now, his fingertips twitching beneath his sleeves, talons catching the hems. He goes on anyway.]
As you know, the military gave me orders monthly while I was juggling academy classes. The final one I received-- the one I had not long before I got here-- sent me to Ambria in search of the jaegers that destroyed Celdic. That was just one reason for annexing the province, I'm sure. [The disdain in his voice is palpable.] ... It was never meant to be a fair fight. General Aurelia went in with a specialized force to crush all opposition, and it wasn't long before the jaegers were suppressed despite being able to summon archaisms.
Or... that's what we thought.
[His dark eyes fall to the table and to the water he hasn't touched.]
A bunch of us were working together to secure the capital and evacuate the citizens because of how bad the fighting got. But before we could finish, the jaegers unleashed thousands-- thousands of archaisms on the city. It was-- [His voice falters. He tries again, softer, his voice trembling at the edges.] It was a slaughter like I would never have imagined-- the kind of thing you only read about.
That's when I completely lost control of myself. My other self came out, and I summoned Valimar at the same time, and... all I remember is being surrounded by archaisms. [He looks at his hands, his shiny black claws.] When I woke up, the occupation was already over. In the end I didn't help anyone.
I haven't used my power since-- and I'm sure it's why I've been resisting the transformation. I can't trust myself to let go of that form when I'm in it, and I can't trust myself to keep my own mind when I'm like this. That's... all I've been thinking about since I got here, since I found out about being a Monster. And all of those fears came true a couple nights ago.
If I'm constantly afraid of myself, nothing will change and this will just keep happening. I'll keep hurting people. That's-- not an option. That isn't what I want.
We're all in this together. And with the way things are headed, we can't afford to hesitate.
[Towa holds a cup of tea between her hands, a few times her gaze drops and she watches it ripple when her hands shake. They couldn't have known, yet she can't help but feel like they-- like she-- should have tried harder, knowing that Rean had been suffering through those feelings alone. But... thinking like that won't accomplish anything now.
She sets down the cup gently and stands, carefully stepping around the table.]
Rean...
[Green eyes look up at him with a piercing clarity. It seems very likely a lecture is coming-- but then he might have expected that much. But before that comes, she pushes herself up on her tiptoes and hugs him tightly; with all the strength her tiny arms can manage. This... this is far more important than the words that will, ultimately, come.]
You don't owe me an apology. In fact... if you have to apologize, I'd rather see you use it to apologize to yourself. I won't stand for anyone being so unkind to my friend-- not even you, yourself.
[Elliot hadn't been among the people who got attacked the other night. He'd been away with a friend, only to come later when he noticed messages on his communicator, and all there was to do was heal people. Since then, he's been fretting about Rean. Never angry with him, but worried.
As Rean says his piece, Elliot listens. It's horrifying. He'd heard bits and pieces about North Ambria through the news, but none of the details like this got through. To think his dear friend had to go through all that on his own...]
...I don't know what to say...
[Were the first words that came to him, because what is there to say to that? It's upsetting to hear, and it hurts to imagine Rean dealing with that.
But he knows he should say something. ]
After something like that, it's no wonder you've been scared of becoming a monster here. Anyone would be.
[A day after everyone departed, and when the diplomats are still on the boat, Elliot will send out this message]
It's Elliot. I made it into Dorchacht.
The city's as dreary as in the dream, but there's some differences. There's a lot less monsters, and the auctions aren't being held in the market place, they're somewhere much secluded. And the Resistance is still around. Look for three stars, that's their symbol.
There's some military force here. I can tell they use enslaved monsters as part of their fighting tactics, but I still need a closer look to know more.
We've encountered a few setbacks, but everything is going well. The waters here are home to infected merrow and a few "sea beasts" as our captain likes to call them. A few merrow have tried to sing both passengers and crew overboard, but we were able to prevent that from happening. It's given us a few scares though. Still-- nothing we can't handle.
Although the boat is a bit on the older side, it has decent canons and we haven't had any trouble scaring away anything that's tried to come after us so far. It seems it's been used as a fishing boat of late, but it seems like it was more than that before. This is probably more of a real trip than it's seen in a while, but the captain assures us it's more than capable.
The crew is nice if not a bit... unconventional. The captain likes to tell us about his past with this boat, but not much else. And the magic the witches here use is a little unique too, not like something you'd expect from someone trained by the Coven. They're very skilled at combining spells to get results.
Aaaaand well. They like to drink. A lot. There have been a feeeew disturbances but hopefully nothing too serious will come from it. I'm sure if we've been able to keep up with all of this, the rest should be a piece of cake, right?
I saw that the Coven's library was off limits-- so I decided to see if I could get some help in getting in. And I wasn't disappointed.
It was risky, but I wanted to see if there might be any information there that could tell me more about the situation here in this city since the public library doesn't have much to offer. And while many of them are still vague, there was a bit of information I thought would be worth sharing.
Based on what I read-- It seems that Morgana Drummond came to Dorchacht on a ship from Aefenglom some time ago with a number of followers. Over time she gradually earned her position over many others. And she is depicted as someone to be greatly admired. Without a doubt, as it's written, this city would not be the way it is not if it were not for her.
Knowing that now, I think we should all be extra cautious around her, especially while we're in her city.
[Thanks to Randy, she's still alive to share this information.]
Someone like this probably has a tight inner circle. Just like the resistance has eyes in the Coven, we should be careful of people who are extremely loyal to Morgana above all else.
I hate to say it, but it reminds me a lot of how some people talk about the Chancellor...
[After Elliot returned to Aefenglom, he had spent a good two hours in the shower followed by crashing hard for over twelve. It was a long month okay.
But now that he's awake and had happy reunions with all his musical instruments... ]
So I was thinking... a bunch of us saw Class VII members in that dream the other week right?
Well dreams like that are usually good indications of who might show up next, so... what if we prepared a welcome party for them? Not anything big, but it has been awhile since this much of Class VII's been together.
[Re: this. Fie's using proper grammar. She has feelings.]
I'm as much about helping out as you guys are, but don't forget we opened the Guild for a reason. Volunteering your time freely is one thing, but adhering to an actual school schedule is a full time job. It's gotta be a give and take in some areas.
I kinda ran it on my own for a month, and it wasn't easy. I just want you to try and remember that...
Don't worry, Fie. As Guild Leader, the Guild is my responsibility. I asked you all to help me with it, so it's my job to make sure it's taken care of. And now that I'm back, I want to do that to the best of my ability. No matter what else I take on, that's always going to be the first thing on my mind.
While I was doing some research in the City's library, I heard a bit about the festival coming up at the end of the month.
Modranicht is Deceuer 26th and it has a few nice traditions.
But one thing really caught my attention. Apparently it's a time known for gift-giving. So I thought it would be nice to plan something for the house-- since there are so many of us, I thought we could do a random drawing and prepare a gift for that person in secret. There's an element of surprise and it saves everyone from having to worry about so many gifts.
I thought this would be a fun way to join in on the tradition. What do you guys think?
[A happy little piano tune plays as the notification from the communicator goes off. This is what happens when you let Elliot manage the magic chat (also sorry Wazy he doesn't know yet who you are)]
Ash Carbide has joined.
[With that out of the way, Elliot will attach his own message]
Welcome Ash! This is a group text for everyone from Zemuria, so it's easier to keep in touch.
[And no, there is no leaving it.]
Heads up, I'm gonna be late coming home for awhile. They're letting me into the basement's first floor, which means I have extra patients until the all kidnap victims recover. So until then, I can't help out with dinner, sorry!
[He's so tired. ]
Also our budget might be a little tighter this month. Sorry again. But good news, I found one of my students and my arm's back to normal! And they say they'll let me into the next level if I do a good job this month, so...I'm getting somewhere. Hopefully.

Hopefully.
