I have pictures, in case anyone can glean anything from this that I can't.

[ And lo, an attachment appears. ]

But yes, as far as I can tell, there's not really a loophole to unravel. It's pretty solidly embedded.

The fact that magic like this exists bothers me a great deal. What's happened here could easily be recreated elsewhere.

As long as the ability is passed on, even if we could destroy these walls, it can't truly stop the cycle.

But... this is something we needed to know. Thanks for looking into it, Lloyd. There's one thing on my mind, but-- I don't know how realistic it is. So I'm going to keep thinking on it.

I'm all in favor of destroying the wall...but I think it should be by the hands of the locals. They need to have that control over what becomes of their own city.

[ insert Crossbell Angstâ„¢ ]

But maybe the rest of us can help you sort all of that out, if you wind up thinking in circles. We're all here for you.

Well, that goes right into me thinking it ought to be a local decision, and a local operation. It should be their call whether or not that's a risk they're willing to take.

[ The guy who basically said "okay, Crossbell is gonna have to suck it up and get invaded" because the alternative was the enslavement of his tiny WMD daughter is clearly willing to take some risks. But he also knows this ain't his lane. ]

Yeah. My main goal here is to learn what I can and give it to the people who need that information.

Although, on that note. Elliot, do you have resistance contacts?

I was hoping you could pass some information on for me, since you're not at so much risk of being watched.

The pictures of the compulsion spell were part of it, since I was hoping there'd be something more useful in the library. But I also have some information on the auction.

[ This picture is of a map drawn in Lloyd's notebook of the auction venue. Aside from having guard positions marked, there's a lot of annotation - arrows pointing out security patrol routes, notations of the timing for shift changes, notes about the route the monsters are brought to the block by, and such details that you'd expect from a security professional. ]

Although you probably need to translate for them, since writing doesn't seem to benefit from...however everyone is able to talk here.

Thanks. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get into anything else before we leave without attracting too much attention, but if I do, I'll send it your way.

If there's one thing I learned leading the SSS, it's that our differences make us stronger. We all had completely different areas of expertise, and all of it came together and got us through cases one of us would never be able to solve alone.

I agree, I don't want to do anything that could hurt the city itself. The people here have enough to contend with as it is.

Well, I suppose it can't hurt to share. Although remember-- it miiiight sound a little crazy.

If we assume the compulsion spell is as powerful as it is because of the size of the physical object it's anchored to, I was wondering if a counter spell couldn't be placed on something larger.

Namely, the land itself.

[personal profile] overworker 2019-09-15 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I told you it might sound crazy.

It's the only non-violent solution I could think of. And I don't know if something like that's even possible, no. But I think if we could do it together, as a group, we might stand a chance.

At least the spell itself seems to be simple, so I think the same would be possible for the counter spell.

A test would be good, though. At least that way we'll know if it's worth pursuing.

If it's possible, maybe we could just do a section of the land if we set it up properly.

Well, its all just speculative at this point.

[personal profile] cspd 2019-09-15 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
That's ambitious.

But we don't know enough to say it's not possible.

I know. But I can't think of any one thing larger than that wall besides that. More than that, it would make things very difficult for them, if they wanted to work around it.

At least... it's something to consider.

I admit, I haven't done much studying on upscaling enchantments, especially not to this kind of scale.

But it gives us something to investigate, at least.
