i'm legally his guardian for the moment, and that means i need to fill out some stuff with the school anyway, so i might as well get started

fern is also living with us for the foreseeable future, so if he gives you any grief you can come straight to me

we don't have quite the same relationship but he's important to varian and he's been really well behaved here considering everything. i'd be going crazy if someone told me i couldn't leave the house for four weeks

That doesn't surprise me. Varian and Fern are basically inseparable at school.

But in that case, I'll send you two sets of forms then. You can fill out Varian's right away, and then hold onto the other one until you and Fern are ready for that conversation.

he's an amazing kid. i wish more people knew that.

[A teacher was only a teacher at the end of the day, not a parent. It's impossible and unfair to put all of that on Elliot's shoulders alone. But with Amal at home, at least, maybe Varian will have an easier time. Fern, too.]

Orphan does make it a little hard to have that kind of home, that's true. [He feels for amal, but he's careful not to go heavy with the pity] Still, multigenerational homes seems like a nice way to live. You seem like the type that'd thrive in a place with that much chaos.

i can do that for him. i've been trying to teach him responsible swordsmanship too. he wants to be a big hero, and i intend to teach him that a hero means protecting people and not just slicing down everything that looks at you funny

i've been attached to a pretty big group of adventurer types for a few years now. when i think about all the good times i've had it was always because i was surrounded by people on my... wavelength, i guess

so when i finally decided to get serious about kaisou and settle in permanently i knew i wanted a big place. it might not be a fancy compound like the scions' base on my world, but it's just the right amount of noise for me

Sounds like you had your own found family there. I think I can relate to that...Class VII is pretty much the same way.

life is like a noisy tavern. there's stories to be heard, friends to make, enemies to tussle with, good drinks and good food, and no one walks out the same way they came in.

It is! My life is much better having them around.

Hehe, well I'm not sure I'm into the tussling part, but other than that I think I could get behind the dream of life being like that.

obviously you wouldn't be doing the tussling. you'd be the bard in the corner, recording all the heroic deeds and playing a sweet song when things settle down hehe
