[Oh! Selling him out like this... Elliot, please...]
Oh, um...
I guess something small with just us three is fine. I really wasn't planning to do much of anything this year, given how wild everything's been, but something low-key could work too.
I'd be happy to take half of the bill for dinner, in that case.
I can understand that. It was quite an adjustment I had to make when I moved to the US. I had just become of age to drink harder liquors in Germany, but moving here meant I could only drink privately if I was desperate enough.
[Which he's not. Jusis is more of a social drinker.]
Really? Aw, thanks Jusis! You know what that means, Rean - order anything you really want! We can afford to eat fancy with Jusis donating!
[HE'S TEASING REALLY]
Boy I can imagine. I'm not that big of a drinker, but if I suddenly lost my ability to drink because I moved.[Not that it would've actually stopped him, but Ash doesn't need to hear that]
Thanks, Jusis! You really don't have to, but I appreciate it.
Oof, yeah. [He briefly considers his wording, remembering Ash can read this. Well, little white lies...] I don't see myself being that big of a drinker myself, but I'd be pretty mad if I were legal one day and then not the next.
Consider it part of my gift to you, Rean. That being said, I see I've corrupted Elliot into having a taste for 'fancy' food.
[He'll tease you right back, sir!!
Jusis is also calling bullshit on the pair not having drank anything underage, but he'll let them have this.]
Indeed. In Germany, you can start drinking beer and wine publicly at 16. It's a very different culture, certainly. When I was in college, disclosing where I was born and raised meant that I got dragged into debates on the legal age of alcohol more times than I could count. The majority was in good fun, though tiring for me, but there were a handful of bad faith debates as well.
Nope, if only. Apparently he makes his soldiers have them six days a week when they're on active duty, even when they're just stationed at a base.
Ha...no kidding, Jusis. I think all it really did was make me more picky. Rean and I have certainly had disagreements about what food to have in the house where I MIGHT had been a tad unreasonable.
I feel like you're understating the disagreements, but I'll let that go for now.
[And it's only because Ash is here to see it with all the glee of a teenager deprived of entertainment.]
Back to our prior topic, I do plan on bringing a drink best enjoyed chilled as one of your gifts, Rean. I've had it before and found it quite pleasant, so I hope you like it.

Oh, is it? I'm glad that I ordered his birthday gifts early. Will you be hosting a small celebration or is this going to be more private?
[By "private," he means "between Rean and Elliot."]

@ Rean, do you want a small celebration or would you like something that's just the three of us?

Fair enough. Stop by on Saturday at the latest. I'll make sure Rean gets your gifts, Ash.
Let me know when I should come over.

[There's going to be drinking]
Maybe in the evening?

...and, you know, my first legal drink. That too, haha.

And that sounds...really tiring. You like debating more, but I'm sure I'd get sick of that real fast.
no subject
I certainly got sick of the topic. As much as I like to debate, I do enjoy variety in the issue that's being discussed.

MREs... if I never have to eat one of those again, it'll be too soon. Your dad definitely has... interesting tastes, Elliot.

When my dad was home, he'd make me have them for dinner once a week because "you should value gaining proper nutrition over taste".
It probably would've been more than once a week, but I think my sister put her foot down.

I thought he only pulled those things out for camping! At least there, it kind of made sense!

I'm sure I will! I trust your tastes. I'll try to make sure there's room in our fridge for it when you come by so we can keep it cold.
