[Sad is enough for Elliot. Whatever is on his friend's mind, he'll listen. He sits there with his own cup of coffee, listening]
I can see that ... it's always disappointing to get turned down like that. I mean, I know you guys will still be friends, but it's normal for it to be a let down that it won't be more.
But really, I don't think you misstepped in anything. If...it's any consolation, it might've been the push they needed.
[ That... actually gets him to crack a small, amused smile, and he shakes his head. ]
It's funny - I actually got to talk to Shinjiro at the party. We spent most of the conversation talking about her, but he was completely oblivious that she returned his feelings at all. So if it helped push anything even a little, then that's good, at least.
[ The smile doesn't last for very long, though. ]
But you're also right about it being disappointing to get turned down. And honestly? It helps hearing someone else say that it's normal to still feel down about it even when I know it's going to be okay. When it's just my own mind fighting with itself about it, it feels like it should only be one or the other. You know?
[ Emotional literacy! Someone is still learning! ]
[Elliot nods, yeah. He knows this one about Shinjiro.]
Yeah. He might actually be denser than Rean about this stuff. I didn't think it was possible, but...
[It's true ok. Good luck, Fie. You'll need it.]
I know what you mean. You wanna jump ahead to things being okay, when it takes a little time to get there. And there's nothing wrong with that. I mean, I don't see you doing anything unreasonable because of your feelings.
[ Denser than Rean?! ] Wow, that's pretty bad. Hopefully something else will give him another push or two...
[ GOOD LUCK, FIE...! ]
Oh, no, I don't see that happening either. It's mostly just all this overthinking that's getting to me. [ A pause - and then a smile... still only a small thing, but definitely a bit lighter than he was just moments ago. ] Talking through it helps. I could probably stand to remember that more often, huh?

Well, I tried? He actually contacted me for advice today...
[It was rough]
Hehe, you do have a habit of overthinking sometimes. [Then again, it's not like he's always innocent in that either] Yeah! Sometimes you just need an ear.
[And also, by this time, a server with the food is coming to bring their fish and chip baskets. It smells freshly fried. Delicious.]

Well, an ear and some comfort food.
