[A small package is left for the recipient wrapped in tissue paper with a little red bow tied around it. Inside is a simple box with a portion of homemade chocolate fudge inside. There's a little note attached!]
happy valentines day!
i hope you like chocolate, elliot! i made them myself! thanks for all the help you've been! let's hang out sometime, okay!
[Oh no, this sweet boy. Elliot only had a vague sense of what Valentine's Day was, so he hadn't thought to send chocolates out to people nor did he expect to get any in return. Getting these from Sora was a surprise. So he'll send out a text of thanks]
Thank you Sora for the chocolates! It was really sweet of you. And it tasted sweet too!
I'd love to hang out sometime. What do you like to do?
[For all of Mikasa's dismissal. She wasn't actually bad at the technical aspects. She could memories notes, movements, control her breathing. But...
Well it sounded like listening to a recording. There wasn't any heart or feeling in it. Just someone going through the motions. And even if those motions were technically prefect, music wasn't supposed to be. There was supposed to be something human, something passionate about it.
Something Mikasa lacked, and had known before she'd started.
...She didn't care for it. Not the playing part at least. Her foot did seem to bounce with a slight rhythm when Elliot played. But her playing was just sounded empty. ]
[Considering it's her first lesson, Elliot's still impressed. Maybe there was a lack of feeling, but her technique for a beginner was impressive. And honestly, even that lack of emotion part wasn't too different than when he taught the android Connor. Emotional expression comes easier for others.
At least this issue was easier on his ears than the other way around. He loves you Sora and how much feeling you bring to the lessons, but oh goddess...his ears.
So near the end of her lesson, he'll still praise her]
You did really well Mikasa! Especially for your first time!
I'm just copying... [That was it. If she had to create something by scratch then she'd be screwed. The control and timing were just things that had been drilled into her. Those were needed to survive.]
We need to talk. [ and after a few moments, a correction: ] I need to talk.
[ if anything, with the emotional on and off rollercoaster that was all of may (many downs, a few unexpected ups, then consequential upsets that followed loss), elliot should have an idea. at least he's ready to talk, now. surprisingly— eren doesn't feel as conflicted as he could be, which might be a relief. ]
[Well those are four words no one ever hears without feeling anxiety. There may be a moment where Elliot is checking the bond for feelings.
It doesn't...FEEL like a break up, so maybe it's fine??? He can breathe. Maybe it's about all those wild emotional whirlwinds he's been getting the past month]
[ Elliot had been very clear, in his note to the network, that the first music lesson was free, and that there was no need for Reynir to bring his own recorder. But it feels just plain rude to show up empty-handed! At first, he had thought about bringing a gift of food, but people's taste in that they like to eat are too difficult to predict. A lot of other gifts that seem perfectly lovely to Reynir have unfortunately romantic connotations, and he definitely doesn't want to give the wrong idea, or come across as creepy.
But then, he figures out the perfect item.
So when he shows up at the appointed time for his first lesson, the first thing Reynir does, besides grin of course, is hold out his hands, offering Elliot a fancily-braided bracelet. It had been quick work for Reynir to make, and he'd had a little scrap of leather and some shiny thread around from various little repairs he'd been making to his clothes (which had taken somewhat of a beating, before he arrived in this place). ]
[Like with any new student, Elliot was looking forward to meeting with Reynir and getting to know him. From what he gleamed from the conversation, Reynir seemed like a sweet and thoughtful guy. If that was the case, it should be a pretty pleasant experience.
The lesson takes place in Elliot's office in the barracks. It's nothing too fancy, a simple barracks dorm converted to be a music studio. Instruments were stored all over the place, and the walls were lined a soundproofing barrier to help with the noise. It's a small operation, what with Elliot being the only staff of his business, but it was a business.
When Reynir shows up. he's got some chairs set up and a small collection of recorders for Reynir to choose from. He smiles when he enters the room]
Hey Reynir! Nice to meet you too- [Oh he wasn't expecting anything. He looks a little surprised when the bracelet is offered to him, looking it over] - Oh thank you! It looks beautiful! You didn't have to get me anything though.
[ Pushing the bracelet into Elliot's hands insistently, Reynir says: ]
I know, but I wanted to!
[ Reynir doesn't have much experience with this kind of first meeting, where he has had a whole conversation with someone but never actually seen them in person, before. So he's got no precedent for it. And he is also someone who, unfortunately, doesn't always think things through before he speaks.
So when he is actually standing beside Elliot, he says what pops into his mind. ]
Oh, wow, you're small, huh?
[ It could be argued that, in fact, Reynir is just unnecessarily tall, but it's all a matter of perspective. And if his words are a bit rude, there doesn't seem to be any malice behind them. ]
I'm really glad you're willing to teach me, even though I'm probably way older than most people are when they start...
[ Reynir drifts over to the recorders, looking them over and asking: ]
Is there... a big difference, between these?
[ He doesn't want to screw things up right away by choosing the wrong one. ]
